Watamu Fishing Seasons and Species
Kenya is very fortunate for deep sea fishing in that there are fish all year round, from billfish to game fish.
Our fishing season runs from Mid June to Mid April. We offer short days (seven hours), long days (10 hours), overnight trips (from 20 hours - 34 hours), and safaris to northern or southern Kenya.
June/July - September
During this period we have some of the best all round deep sea fishing, for all species including black marlin, sailfish, sharks, wahoo, and tuna, using mainly live baits.
October - December
This is mainly our sailfish season. Though, there is also some world class giant trevally fishing, during this period. These month are a good time for jigging for amberjacks, groupers, snappers, and other species of trevally. From Mid October to the end of November there are also large tiger sharks around for those feeling strong.
January - March/April
This is our season for all round billfish fishing. We get blue marlin, black marlin, stripe marlin, broadbill swordfish, and sailfish. Generally there are more fish earlier on during this time and bigger fish towards the end. We tend to use artificial lures at that this time, but also live baits when available.
